An excellent win last night against a side who crushed us earlier in the season. Telling batting contributions from Mark C (59) and Bruce ensured BAS set a challenging target of 145 for the loss of 6 wickets even if the opposition bowling was at times on the intimate side of friendly.
When defending their total, BAS knew they could not be complacent as Railway Vue are a fine batting side and so it proved. But tidy bowling from Rob and Trev at the start kept them in check and yielded 3 wickets for 60 runs off the first 8 overs. This left our opponents chasing 85 runs from the remaining 7 overs with Mark C and Mark Godfrey to bowl.
The 2 Marks completed their overs during a furious onslaught by the home side who had held back some of their better batters. In particular, the lofted drive through long-off kept Bruce busy, but he pulled off 3 fantastic catches to keep BAS in the game. In the end Railway Vue needed 35 off the last over to win, but Mark Godfrey on debut proved more than a match for the batting side with his accurate bowling. By stumps Railway Vue had managed 130 for 7, 16 runs short of their target.
So in the end another famous win and thoroughly deserved, so well done everyone for a super effort. I would like to especially mention our other debutantes Mike and Andrew who fielded tenaciously along side the regulars and played a full part in the win. Praise worthy performances from Iain who was especially vocal last night in encouraging the side from behind the wicket and kept tidily and to Mark C who, as so often, helped bat BAS into contention. He also took the key wicket of the home teams most dangerous batsman (clean bowled). But the star of this performance in my view was Bruce, with his aggressive batsmanship and quite outstanding fielding.
A word also for the skipper who successfully managed to manoeuver around the field all 3 Mark's at his disposal without creating too much confusion, though the cry of "well done Mark" did ring out across the pitch almost every other ball.
