To try to remove ice, I tried lowering the albedo. However, lowering the albedo loses too much ice in summer, and doesn't help much in winter. Which is exactly what you'd expect, but still it was an interesting test.
Yabpl: simply reduces the ice albedo to [0.4-0.7] instead of the standard [0.5-0.8]. A sensitivity test. Result: no summer antarctic ice :-(.
Yabpm: somewhat more interesting, and an attempt to remove winter ice. Argue that the albedo cou;d be reduced by water-spray blowing onto the ice, which would vary with the wind speed. Thus argue that a wind-dependent albedo is possible. So make the albedo down to 0.2 above 10 m/s (linearly below). Result: no summer ice :-( BUT also a reduction in winter ice :-). Might be worth pursuing.
Yabpn: attempt at mod to wind mixing energy. Appears to have little effect - possibly an error in the mod.
